Abstract

English Title: "Fabulations of the Present: Normalizing Discursive Deviations and the Feuilletonesque Thriller in the Argentine Media" From a social-semiotic perspective, this paper explores how the Argentine media of the last twelve years have created a blurry space where reality and fiction interlock, while appealing to styles and techniques associated with thriller and feuilleton, in order to describe the country's social reality. Considering certain practices of "irrational emotionalism" (Lipovetsky 2000 and Fernᮤez Pedemonte 2001), this work addresses then two sets of questions: how and why have media helped to degrade the democratic public sphere? What are the techniques and discursive mechanisms that have facilitated this operation? Exemplifying with articles from the national newspapers Clar La Naci㮬 P᧩na/12, and with national TV programs, it also analyzes the reelaborations of social representations and how they have influenced individuals and society as a whole (Martini 1997).
