Abstract

Long time ago, there was no such a profession, social work. Human communities have always had people who respond to those in need. When people feel helpless and want to seek help, they ask for help from their families, friends, neighborhood, colleagues, and communities. Of course, most of them render their help on a voluntary basis. We have previously explored the role of carers who volunteer much of their time to care for loved ones (O’Leary and Tsui, 2023). The synergy between caring and helping one’s community is interconnected with volunteering.
