Abstract

This chapter provides an understanding of registered nurse practice within the Australian and New Zealand healthcare systems. The legislation and registration for nurses is discussed, together with the scope of practice. The national health priorities are presented to enable the student to understand what areas within the health system are targeted. In Australia, the national priorities focus on cancer, cardiac disease, mental health and injury prevention.
