Abstract

By exploring the jungle of organizational theories, this paper aims to search a metatheory of organizations. It seems impossible for this endeavor because of the incommensurability of different organizational theories. However, a metaphor named “blind men feel an elephant, each takes a part for the whole” from ancient India was applied to illustrate the complexity of organizations. In addition, some suggestions of overcoming the challenge of incommensurability were provided. The authors try to provide insights for the survival and development to social welfare organizations.
