Abstract
In early March a series of social disturbances occurred in the suburb of Macquarie Fields in outer south-west Sydney. Macquarie Fields is relatively isolated from the rest of the Sydney metropolitan area, public housing predominates and the locality scores high on the usual indicators of social and economic disadvantage.
