Abstract
Background: Variations on Purple Jacarandas is an electroacoustic work commissioned by the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art for the Asia Pacific Triennial 9, as a sound installation to accompany the visual installation "Purple Reign", by UNSW artist Gary Carsley. Contribution: The creative prompt involved sourcing inspiration from the blooming jacarandas in Brisbane during October, and the character of the song Purple Rein (Prince), and using abstracted sounds from the Indonesian gamelan. Some of the materials utilised in this creation include the software MAX/MSP, Finale, CamelAudio, among several others. Significance: The work run from November 2018 to March 2019 at the QAGoMA in Brisbane.
