Abstract

This paper is to further advance the technology utilized in the application of wind turbines to assist in combating climate change. To achieve this aim this paper looks at replacement of the medium voltage/ high voltage low frequency grid transformer with solid-state transformer (SST) with high switching speed that in turn drastically reduce component size and weight. The theoretical design shows the entire DC-DC converter, high frequency transformer, inverter and LCL filter design for a 2MW turbine and are simulated as a proof of concept.
