Abstract

A burgeoning social science and legal literature is beginning to investigate technology-facilitated domestic violence. Likewise, information and computer technology (ICT) scholars have begun to incorporate domestic violence into research on security and privacy. To date, however, these literatures remain poorly integrated. The research focused on cybercrime in the context of domestic violence is often uninformed by ICT research. At the same time, ICT research is often poorly informed about the dynamics, distribution, and impact of domestic violence. This presentation draws on interviews with Australian survivors of technology-facilitated coercive control to outline an intimate threat model for technology-facilitated domestic abuse, synthesising insights from criminology, law, and ICT.
