Abstract

Background: The 2019 'Collection Spotlight: Blood Money' exhibition was a major showcase of the Blood Money research project. It featured four of the printed works that are the critical part of the Exchange Terminal concept. It promoted these hero's intelligence, perseverance and maneuverability. It did this by illustrating them colourful, lifesize, printed nano-film polymer designs that mimic Australian currency banknotes. People are able to purchase these reproductions through the Terminal. In this case, agents of the Reserve Bank purchased the full suite during the peak rate of exchange.

Contribution: Significant events of their lives are also detailed in the design of the creative works. The depiction of these people in such a way contributes to new knowledge of Australian history that is easily accessible to the general public. By having them exhibited at the Reserve Bank at Martin Place demonstrates the strong contribution of these works to the Australian discourse of history, finance, power and art.

Significance: Ryan Presley is the only artist to have works prominently exhibited the Reserve Bank of Australia that is a researcher from QCA. Evidence of this is also in the fact that the Reserve Bank acquired four of these works from the Blood Money Currency Exchange Terminal (Blood Money - 100 Dollar Note, Blood Money - 50 Dollar Note, Blood Money - 20 Dollar Note, and the Blood Money 10 Dollar Note) into their permanent collection and archives. The RBA is the institution directly responsible for the design and dissemination of banknotes nationally.
