Abstract
South Asia represents a region with multiple contradictions. On the one hand, it is home to two of the world’s most rapidly growing economies in the world (Bangladesh and India). On the other hand, the region bears the unenviable distinction of having a significant share (24% in 2019) of the world’s poor.1 In terms of progress towards attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the record is uneven, with some countries doing well (such as Bhutan), but with others lagging (such as Pakistan).2
