Abstract
Both the modern international regime governing international trade and that of international protection of human rights emerged in the aftermath of World War II. The contemporary international human rights regime began with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 1948, while the international trade regime which today is governed at the global level by the World Trade Organization (WTO) is descended from the initial General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) adopted in 1947.
