Abstract
Research background: This project was a collaboration between a symphony orchestra and Hip-Hop/Rap, therefore introducing a 'classical' orchestra to Hip-Hop/Rap fan base (& vice versa).
Research contribution: The project involved the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings. It did this by taking existing source material (Thundamentals' Hip-Hop/Rap songs) and orchestrating them to be performed with symphony orchestra. The performance was quasi-improvisatory, so was different each time it is performed.
Research significance: By introducing a 'classical' orchestra to Hip-Hop/Rap fan base (& vice versa), this project helped with breaking down silos of music genres. It was professionally reviewed: https://www.facesofbne.com.au/thundamentals-and-queensland-symphony-orchestra-at-the-tivoli/
