Abstract

The upper airways, including the nose and throat, are especially important when considering a person's respiratory and olfactory function. To appreciate the impact of disease, trauma and/or alteration in function of these intricate structures you are advised to review the structure and function of the nose and throat and the relationships to each other in light of the primary digestive function of the mouth (Chapter 19).
