Research Background: This was a collaborative project with leading Brazilian guitarist Chrystian Dozza and Paulo Bellinati, the most highly respected Brazilian guitar composer of our time. It involved the workshopping, rehearsal and world premiere performance of a new guitar duet “Chacona”, written by Bellinati this year. Research Contribution: This research involved an intensive individual and then combined work shopping and rehearsal process prior to the world premiere performance of the work in Brisbane on August 18th, 2018. I worked closely with my colleague Chrystian Dozza on the rehearsal of the work to create the performance edition and we also workshopped it via Skype with the composer himself. The work is challenging technically and rhythmically and required detailed research and experimentation with the Chacona dance form. Research Significance: This work represents a significant addition to the repertoire for guitar duo and the world premiere performance took place to a sold out audience in the Ian Hanger Recital Hall, Queensland Conservatorium on August 18th, 2018. Based on the success of this premiere, a recording and international CD release are under way with the composer’s permission and support
