Abstract

Pressure injury (PI), also known as pressure ulcer, is one of the most frequently occurring, painful, costly yet preventable adverse events in hospitals. Intensive care patients are at great risk of developing PIs due to factors such as vasopressor medication use, poor perfusion and immobility (Alderden et al., 2017). PI prevention, especially in the intensive care population, has been high on healthcare organisations’ agenda due to the high level of prevalence, unfavourable patient outcomes and high costs to the healthcare system (Chaboyer et al., 2018; Padula et al., 2018)
