Abstract
This paper provides a brief systematic review of literature in the area of aesthetics and tourist experience with an aim to identify the state of knowledge and gaps in research. In total, 60 articles were identified and reviewed according to the topic, relevance to aesthetics and mindfulness, forms of tourism, tourist/destination and methodology. The review findings show that aesthetics is an emerging research area in the domain of tourist experience but most of the existing literature engaged aesthetics as one of the many variables. The review observes a lack of in-depth examination and conceptualisation of the concept of aesthetics. Based on the review findings, recommendations for future research are provided.
