Abstract

Psychiatry teaching is an essential component of the medical school curriculum; however, the knowledge, skills and attitudes gained by the student extend beyond simply developing an understanding of mental health. Arguably, a sound grounding in psychiatry provides a footprint for good clinical practice across all specialties, encompassing high‐level communication skills, ethics and complex biopsychosocial decision making.
