A compact and example-based introduction is given to create professional text documents using LaTeX. The most important elements of a scientific document are explained in plain and intelligible manner and their implementation in the macro language LaTeX is demonstrated. The aim is to focus on the basic commands and their application to the design of high-quality text layout. To conclude, a brief overview is given concerning the different LaTeX front-editors as well as the installation and set-up of LaTeX.
