This report describes an international research and study journey undertaken between 26th October – 28th November 2019, to observe and investigate out of hospital medical responses in resource poor, remote, austere and extreme environments.
The explicit focus of the research project was to explore models of remote medical response in austere environments that could enhance future paramedicine deployment within Queensland. The study involved two main geographical locations on the United States (US) mainland, Estes Park Colorado and a remote desert location in Utah. Within this region, four organisations and institutions were engaged with 40 individuals from varying industries, backgrounds and clinical skill level working in the remote setting.
Specifically, the report allowed participation in a wilderness medicine training event, and a Mars mission simulation.
