Abstract
This chapter explores the nature of resilience. It discusses resilience as a dynamic, socially constructed concept that can be actively developed in a variety of ways. It asserts that, outside of the structure of the family, teachers and schools play the most significant role in the development of protective factors and assets during the middle years, and proposes ways that schools can embed strategies and approaches that will enhance and develop student resilience.
