Abstract
This opinion piece deals with controversies over tiger conservation and tiger tourism in India. Two key lessons concerning conservation and visitor management at Madhya Pradesh tiger reserves, which are relevant to wildlife tourism worldwide, are highlighted. The first is about tourist behaviour, and the second is about the pivotal role of local village communities.
