Abstract
This chapter explores the application of narrative career counselling to support the career development of people with refugee backgrounds after resettlement. It begins by discussing the complexities and challenges faced by this heterogeneous group throughout their migration journey, emphasising the protracted nature of displacement and its impact on their identity construction. By highlighting the importance of cultural, contextual, and systemic considerations in career counselling, the relevance of using narrative career counselling with people with refugee backgrounds is further established. Narrative career counselling facilitates storytelling for reconstructing new career narratives and reclaiming preferred accounts of identity. The chapter outlines the process of narrative career counselling, focusing on reflection, connectedness, meaning-making, learning, and agency. By providing a framework for narrative career counselling, the chapter underscores its potential to empower people with refugee backgrounds to pursue their career aspirations in their new countries.
