Abstract

This chapter considers the nature and prevalence of miscarriages of justice, defined as including both wrongful convictions and wrongful acquittals. It examines why these failures occur, remedies that are currently available, the increasing role played by DNA and other scientific techniques, and reforms that could help avoid or minimise their occurrence.
