Abstract
This exegesis centres around the curatorial processes used throughout the creation and development of two viola recital programmes. These processes were based on collaborative relationships with emerging composers through the commissioning of four new works for the viola. The result culminated as two viola recitals hosted by the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne, Australia. This research investigates how collaborating with composers in the commissioning of new work can influence curatorial decisions and the challenges that present themselves when designing concert programmes in this way. This work holds great significance in my career, as it is connected to both my interest in exploring different methods for concert curation, and my desire to contribute to the repertoire of new works for the viola. This research submission includes this exegesis and a digital portfolio of video recordings of the two viola recitals.
