Abstract

The presented work involved the design, manufacture and testing of three-dimensional scaffolds with the aim of advancing the field of bio-scaffolds from a mechanical prospective. Three different scaffold structure configurations were tested in regards to stiffness, ultimate stress and their fracture behavior. The configurations were named after the unit-cell geometry which they are based on, 0°–90° cylinder structure, 0°–90° holes in cube structure and negative body centered cubic structure (negative BCC). It could be shown that the negative BCC configuration shows the best performance with respect to the mechanical behavior under compression force.
