Abstract
This thesis comprises three empirical studies investigating the impact of board gender diversity, stock liquidity, and individualism on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure in the global markets. The first empirical study is about board gender diversity and ESG disclosure. This study examines the impact of gender-diverse boards and the staggered initiation of gender quotas around the world on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure. Using a sample of 48 countries from 2005 to 2016, the study finds a significantly positive relation between gender-diverse boards and ESG disclosure. This implies that firms with gender-diverse boards are more likely to disclose more ESG-related information to their stakeholders. [...]
