Abstract

Definition: Secondary tumours of the adrenal cortex are tumours that originate in extra-ad-1 renal locations and spread to the adrenal gland by either metastasis or direct infiltration. Synonym: Metastatic adrenal tumours Epidemiology: Adrenal metastasis is reported in as many as 27% of cancer cases {310,996, 1534). The adrenal gland is the fourth most common site of metastasis, after the lungs, liver, and bone. The most common primary sites are the breast, lung, kidney, stomach, pancreas, oesophagus, and liver/ bile duct (1534,2035). Adrenal metastasis is usually detected in the setting of advanced-stage disease. Presentation with a solitary adrenal metastasis is uncommon {2259).
