Abstract

Human resource management (HRM) – a rational process which takes a strategic planning approach in which the needs and expectations of volunteers are matched with the labour requirements of VSOs. Management roles – typical management positions in a traditionally structured VSO include president or chairperson, secretary, treasurer and registrar. Volunteers in management roles are members of the management committee or board with responsibility for the governance of the organisation and its assets. Operational roles – usually encompass coaching coordinators, coaches, team managers, equipment coordinators, ground marshals and general helpers amongst a number of other positions.
