Abstract

The American Public Health Association (APHA) is a primary public health advocate protecting all Americans and their communities from preventable, serious health threats including emergency preparedness, food safety, hunger and nutrition, climate change and other environmental health issues, public health infrastructure, disease control, international health and tobacco control. The APHA brings together various health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, epidemiologists and public health educators. The APHA, being a tremendous asset to public health, is known as the only organization with the ability to influence federal policy for securing funds for health programs, awareness, or emergency preparedness to improve public health. Continuing education (CE) assists professionals in maintaining their professional license, and CE credits are often required by an employer or even by the government. Course curriculum evolves as new advances are being made in health care and CE helps to ensure that professionals stay informed.
