Abstract
The measurement of noise level at 17 sites near the south east freeway is described. Noise level distribution percentiles: l01, l05, l10, l50, l90 and l99, along with leq, lnp, noise climate and standard deviation, were measured for each half hour of a full day. These half hour scales have been aggregated into periods of 24 hours, 18 hours, 12 hours (day), 12 hours (night) and 6 hours (evening). Tni and ldn were calculated for the 24 hour period. Characteristics of the noise measurement and analysis system are briefly described and estimates of the sampling errors in the measurements given. Bivariate correlation analyses have shown that most of the different noise scales are highly correlated for the present data. The acoustic environment around the freeway is described, mainly in terms of the l10 and l90 scales, and in particular the effect of roadway geometry on noise levels in the adjacent community examined.
