Abstract
To the editor,
Sternal fractures are a common high-velocity deceleration injury and can be associated with concomitant injuries and complications [1]. Retrosternal haematoma is a documented complication of traumatic sternal fractures [2]. The combination of a sternal fracture and retrosternal haematoma can cause significant pain and often results in a limitation in the ability to cough and take deep breaths, both of which may lead to pneumonia, atelectasis and, death [1,2].
