Abstract

Accretion and erosion of beach sediment often occurs in the surf zone, due to fluid-structure interaction. Traditional sediment dredging practices in coastal regions are hindered by the cost of operation and the environmental impact. An alternate method, in which wave energy is used as the driving force to transport the sediment, is proposed in this paper. Experimental investigation based on a series of model tests demonstrated the feasibility of the new device.
