Abstract

Abstract Rotaviruses are a global health concern causing severe childhood diarrhea. Though the mechanisms mediating rotavirus cell entry require further characterisation, it is acknowledged that an essential and critical step in rotavirus infection is the virus cell attachment via initial recognition of cell surface carbohydrate-containing receptors. This review summarises the current knowledge about recognition of glycan receptors by rotaviruses.
