Abstract

The world is undergoing rapid transformation that is potentially greater than the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Artificial Intelligence is finding its way into every sector of society, giving rise to widespread fears that it will make millions unemployed. It is true that boring jobs, and jobs in dirty, dangerous and remote areas that are already difficult to find humans willing to do will likely be automated. But as this happens, new and more interesting jobs are created in emergent industries servicing the new economy. Likewise, jobs that require the human touch will continue to be done by humans, perhaps assisted by an AI Helper. The future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be a pro-human partnership in which AI improves job performance. Every generation wrestles with the challenges of disruptive technology. Let us endeavor to meet our own challenge now by adjusting our perception of AI to be a collaborative partner that greatly extends our inherent human capabilities.
