Abstract

The period under review saw defence and international security again pervade the Australian news media. Despite the national gaze falling upon Australia's military participation in the Iraqi war, domestic issues also returned to centre stage to produce a degree of high drama unseen for some time in Australian federal politics, including questions of leadership on both sides of the House, seismic shifts in social policy, allegations of corruption in Aboriginal politics and further revelations forcing the resignation of the Governor-General.
