Abstract
Of the different forms of tourism studied under the theme of sustainable tourism, ecotourism has received the most attention. Ecotourism is considered as a preferable economic activity to promote sustainability and is often discussed in the same context as sustainable livelihoods (Funnell and Bynoe 2007). Ecotourism, understood as sustainable tourism in natural areas, has the potential to assist in the development of a workable approach to achieving sustainability objectives through tourism. Ecotourism contributes not only to sustainable development but also to the long and difficult process of its implementation in the tourism system (Pforr 2001; Thurau et al. 2007).
