Abstract
This chapter concerns contrasting visions of a cosmopolitan 'Pan-Pacific' circulating internationally during the mid-twentieth century. Our first example comes from the interwar years when Western internationalists saw in the formation of Pan-Pacific networks an opportunity for Pacific Rim nations to shape modernization in the region.
