Abstract
  1. Background Due to the increasing requirements on high efficiency and energy saving in global economy, Parallel and Distributed Computing has been under many years of development, coupling with different research and application trends such as cloud computing, green computing, big data analysis, etc. Nowadays the theory, design, analysis, evaluation and application of parallel and distributed computing systems are still burgeoning.

The objective of this special section is to publish research findings and overview on recent trends in the interdisciplinary area of parallel and distributed computing, applications and technologies. This special section includes some expanded papers presented at the 17th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing, Applications and Technologies (PDCAT 2016), as well as papers submitted in response to call-for-papers for this section. We received 36 papers in total to this special section, among which eight papers are selected after at least two rounds of strict review.
