Abstract
Background: Independent academic policy research and analysis is needed to inform evidence-based mental health advocacy, policy, planning and implementation. Objectives: Toprovide a clinical update for psychiatrists and trainees on specific aspects of population mental health and mental health service policy, planning and implementation. Attendees will gain knowledge in the CANMEDS domains of medical expert (applying expertise to practice), scholar (improving evidence base) and health advocate (evidence-based advocacy).Methods: We review the relevant research and policy data.Conclusion: Evidence-based mental health policy research and analysis is essential to improve clinical care, and collaborative research is encouraged.
