Abstract
We write to you regarding the article, Westefeld and Rinaldi (2018). We presented at the 10th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health on the MATES Respond Program. We believe that this presentation and summary uses preventative elements of Joiner’s theory on suicide and interconnectivity as discussed as emerging accepted suicide theory in Westefeld and Rinaldi (2018). We argue that Joiner and Westefeld’s work is enhanced using interconnectivity and belonging as a preventive model of suicide prevention. We argue that peer support and broadening the skillset of reflective practice as a point of connection in workplace settings, is a transformative component of postvention support after a peer’s suicide further enhancing Westefeld and Rinaldi (2018) five key summary topics.
