The competition is looking for compositions that is capable of to drawing attention for the intended use of cueing audiences to take their seats at major professional performance venues across Australia. Selected participants had the opportunity to workshop their fanfares with professional mentor composers prior to being performed and recorded. The research contribution of the Fanfare Competition was the creation of 16 new Australian compositions. The research significance included the performance, publication and broadcasting of the fanfares to a live audience of 50, an online audience of over 500, and the opportunity for the fanfares to be played as interval cues at major Australian performance houses.

The project was peer reviewed, as it was done in collaboration with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Sydney Youth Orchestra, Queensland Youth Orchestra and Adelaide Youth Orchestra. The recording of the concert was played in its entirety on 4MBS Classical Radio Brisbane on 4 Dec 2020 at 10pm.
