New media can be defined as the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the twentieth century. Examples of these technologies include destination Web sites and social media, blogs, podcasts, online video. streaming, and mobile technology (Flew, 2008), Each of these technologies have become critical elements within the.sport industry. New media is distinguished by a number of unique characteristics including geographic distance volume of communication, speed.of communication, interactivity, and interconnection and overlap among communication (Crteau & Hoynes, 2003). These characteristics relate directly to sport management and each characteristic has markedly impacted the sport landscape.
