Abstract

Two Australian primary school educators, Jan Burton, a deputy principal, and Jayne Barnett, a school curriculum head, saw themselves as "in the business" of working with teachers to increase children's literacy out- comes. Despite an intensive three-year, whole school, literacy renewal project, their target audience, the children, remained unmotivated.
