Abstract

We hear a great deal about acceleration as a form of provision for gifted and talented students, but what is it? Does it always mean grade skipping - moving up a year level or more? This report includes information on the main types of acceleration and includes a synopsis of the key features of acceleration including: • Moving through learning programs quicker or at a younger age than the ‘norm’.
• The provision of ‘vertical’ academic progress.
Often covering more information more quickly and at a more advanced year/grade level.
