This technical report presents the methodology, findings and survey data for The Australian Trust in Government Survey (heron referred to as the ‘survey’ or ‘Trust in Government Survey’). The survey was administered by Griffith University researchers in June and July 2024. It was administered via Facebook for a four-week period to better understand Australians’ attitudes about Government and authorities, and opinions about those who seek to stand up and question Government and authority decisions. Of specific interest was how such views were associated with other attitudes and behaviours, including attitudes about conspiracy theories and violence. The following sections of the report present: (a) the background information about the project (Part 1); (b) the methodology used to collect the survey data (Part 2); and (c) a summary of the main findings obtained from each section of the survey (Part 3). Following this, all items used to construct key scales are presented (Part 4). The complete survey instrument is then presented at the back of this report (Part 5), with a detailed breakdown of participant responses provided to each survey item.
