Abstract
This brief aims to address the question of how the clean energy transition and investment in remote, off-grid renewable energy systems can support social and economic co-benefits to Indigenous communities, in particular, bring intergenerational equity to the fore through meaningful engagement with young Indigenous Australians. Whether across the design, implementation, management and evaluation of these systems, this brief identifies consideration of engagement with young Indigenous people as a critical gap within the peer-reviewed literature. We present findings from a transdisciplinary literature review across the fields of community renewables, collaborative governance and engagement with Indigenous and youth. We synthesise learnings and distil seven key elements as part of a framework for supporting inclusion of young Indigenous people, perspectives and voices to strengthen their capacity to participate in energy decision-making and management during this clean energy transition.
