Abstract
The word cognition derives from the Latin word cognoscere (translated as “to know”) signifying humans’ mental activities concerning the acquisition and analysis of information. Despite the fact that the exploration of how people obtain knowledge has been a philosophical and scientific enquiry for thousands of years, it partly remains a mystery that continues being investigated according to epistemological doctrines such as Nativism (also known as Innatism), Empiricism, and Existentialism.
