Abstract

This is a resourceful reference to understand the importance of film policy to the film industry. It contains basic information on existing models of support and regulation for the film industry in various countries that recognize the benefit of cultural diversity, art and entertainment. The chapter Herman Van Eyken wrote for this book as an additional contribution to the seminar papers, as he could not participate due to unforeseen circumstances. But the paper was considered so valuable it was added under the heading Additional Contributions (one was about Belgian Film Policies, written by Herman Van Eyken, the other was about and from the Philippines. The book is a unique asset for policy makers, filmmakers, distributors and critics, researchers, academics and students of film and policy. It is a post event publication based on the seminar that was held in Kuala Lumpur in June 2005. High level representatives of official film bodies from Malaysia, Singapore, France, Denmark, Korea, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Sweden, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Thailand, China contributed.
