Abstract

The seminal vesicles (SVs) depend on androgen action for normal development and function (George and Wilson 1994; Mooradian et al. 1987; Wilson et al. 1981). Androgen action in SVs is mediated via DHT rather than T as SV stromal cells express 5α-reductase type 2, which converts T to DHT. This is supported by the observation that 5α-reductase knockout mice have smaller SVs (Mahendroo et al. 2001).
