Abstract

Project relevance: Shear strength of soil is used in slope stability analyses and engineering designs. Before the sand embankment is built at the project site to consolidate the soft alluvial clay, it is necessary to estimate its stability. This chapter will introduce shear strength of soil and factors affecting it. In the end, we will apply this knowledge to compute the factor of safety of the proposed embankment.
